OverView

Amir Bashir Bazaz has nearly 25 years of professional experience across a range of practices. These include multiple engineering roles, and as a climate and urban policy researcher and practitioner. Amir holds a PhD in Management from IIM Ahmedabad, with a specialisation in Public Systems and works on issues at the intersection of economics, finance, climate change mitigation and adaptation, just energy transitions and sustainable development. His current research interests are focused on coupled urban and climate transitions, including unpacking the mechanics of desirable long-term transition and transformation pathways. Climate and environmental policy are the key axis that integrates and creates propositional frameworks from his research and practice. Amir brings substantial experiences in the context of cities, its governance and the underlying dynamics of market and non-market frameworks to the climate and disaster risk dynamics. He also has a first degree in electrical engineering from IIT Roorkee. Amir also brings in rich experience from his work on disaster risk reduction and climate and disaster resilient infrastructure, particularly on elements of governance, finance, and policy. He has previously been the National Expert Consultant to the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India for the Second National Communication to the UNFCCC and worked extensively across multiple geographies, such as sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, Latin America, and Europe. Amir was the Lead Author on the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) on Global Infrastructure Resilience 2023, Lead Author on the GCF report on ‘Scaling up Climate Finance 2021, Lead Author on the Summary for Urban Policy Makers 2022, Contributing Author on the IPCC WG II Assessment Report 6 (Feasibility Assessment) Report 6 and IPCC 2018 Special Report on 1.5°C. Apart from research and teaching, Amir is the Associate Dean to the IIHS School of Environment & Sustainability and the IIHS School of Systems & Infrastructure. Amir has been teaching courses on Infrastructure Systems, Climate Policy, Energy Systems and Development Economics across multiple postgraduate programs and has mentored nearly 50 young researchers across multiple research and practice-based projects.
