School of Governance

Transforming governance in India’s cities, towns and villages.

About

The IIHS School of Governance (SoG) engages with the principles, approaches, and instruments by which Indian settlements are governed.

It does so in order to transform the mandates, structures, processes, and working of institutions at multiple scales, and their relationship with the market and other non-State institutions and citizens.

The School’s core themes draw on a unique systemic orientation, interdisciplinary reach, and spatial focus. The themes are developed around the role of law, policy, regulation and negotiation in shaping effective institutions and realising public–private–community–citizen action.
