Long-Term Urban Ecological Observatory
Monitoring urban ecological change over time
About
The LTUEO brings together urban ecology, sustainability science, climate science, and earth observation to generate long-term evidence on the interactions between people, biodiversity, ecosystems, and the built environment. By combining continuous environmental monitoring, interdisciplinary research, and field-based experimentation, it enables a deeper understanding of urban socio-ecological systems across spatial and temporal scales.
The LTUEO strengthens IIHS’ commitment to long-term knowledge creation by supporting research, teaching, practice, and policy. It also serves as a platform for collaboration with governments, academic institutions, practitioners, and citizens, generating evidence that informs nature-based solutions, ecological restoration, climate adaptation, and sustainable urban development.
